What do we believe?
We profess the historic Christian faith as expressed in The Apostles' Creed:
We believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth;
And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
Each week, the people of Trinity profess this historic statement that contains the basic affirmations of the Christian Church. In doing so, we each bear witness to what we personally believe and receive the witness of one another's faith, and the faith of the Church going back to the Old Roman Creed of the 2nd century.
Christians worship one God in three Persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Apostles’ Creed and the Nicene Creed are both divided into three sections to represent this truth.This historic "Shield of the Trinity" illustrates both the unity and distinction revealed in Scripture. For instance, God is Father but the Father is not the Son. This is revealed when the Father speaks at the Son's baptism and when the Son prays to the Father. This doctrine of the Church gave us our name!
