We are having such a BIG time during BIG Church at Trinity UMC!
BIG Church is our summer children’s church program for elementary-aged kids to experience the hugeness of God in new and exciting ways. The first four Sundays of BIG Church taught us to worship God by praising Him in song, praying, giving back our money and time to Him and reading the Bible.
We began our worship in June by learning about David and his unashamed love for the Lord. We pretended we were King David and the Israelites as we danced into Jerusalem carrying the Ark of the Covenant, overjoyed at its return. We also used BIG props to help us remember to love the Lord with all our heart, soul and strength.
Our next meeting proved to be an interesting one as Professor Stinkinstein visited BIG Church. The Professor, a/k/a Mr. Keith, brought with him the Babblelator 3000-D, a machine he invented to use to talk to God. As it turned out, the Babblelator 3000-D, while a fascinating head adornment, did not work. It instead exploded confetti all over the fellowship hall and the kids loved it! (The clean up was definitely worth it!) During this lesson, we learned the Lord’s Prayer as Jesus’ example of how to pray and that all we really have to do to talk to God is “Just Pray.”
We dived into a tithing demonstration using Skittles candy the
following Sunday that illustrated the idea of giving one out of every
10 to God. We learned that everything we have comes from God and if God
gives us 10 Skittles, we give one Skittle back to God for Him to do His
work. Mr. Keith demonstrated God’s promise in Malachi 3:10 that if we
give, He will open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so many
blessings we won’t have enough room for them by pouring a full bag of
Skittles over Mrs. Tina’s head. Of course, the tub she was standing in
only caught a few of the falling candies! It took quick work to swipe
the splattered Skittles before the kids did. But not to worry, the kids
got their own bag of Skittles to take home to remember the point!
The
final Sunday in June found us learning the Bible is God’s written words
to us and that by it, God teaches us about Him and how to live. Having
a BIG Bible helped us to visually see how important it is to read and
study God’s Word so that we will know Him better and grow in our
relationship with Him. And when I say BIG Bible, I’m really not
kidding! It’s the biggest Bible you’ll ever see! Guaranteed! After all,
God wrote it and He’s a BIG God!
July marks BIG Church’s entry
into Egypt as we move into the story of the slavery of the Israelites,
Moses and the Ten Commandments. All elementary-aged kids are invited to
join us for this epic adventure of deliverance! We meet in the
sanctuary for the beginning of the 11 a.m. adult worship service and
then make our way to the fellowship hall for something new each week at
BIG Church.
